Design guide
Five rules that keep laser-cut and bent parts cheap and correct.
1. Draw at 1:1 in millimetres
Send DXF outlines at true size in millimetres, with one closed outline per part and no duplicate lines.
2. Keep holes larger than the thickness
Hole diameters at or above the sheet thickness cut cleanly. Smaller holes may taper or need a second operation.
3. Respect the bend radius
Use an inside bend radius of at least the sheet thickness, and keep holes and cutouts one thickness away from bend lines.
4. Leave room for the flange
Short flanges slip off the tooling. Keep flange lengths above four times the sheet thickness where you can.
5. Note material and finish on the order
Mild steel is priced online; for stainless, aluminium or powder coating, state the grade, thickness and colour on WhatsApp.
